Comment(s): I know this is not what you want, but I have to get it off my chest. I have been a qualified skipper for more than 20 years. My wife and a friend decided to do your Safeboating course. I thought my fishing days were over, my wife, now my crew, would not let me launch until she had done a pre-check. While on the water one day a situation arose and my wife took control, and avoided what could have been a serious accident. I overheard her telling someone afterwards “it was nothing, I just used the common sense, I was taught on the course”. I sat in on the next course and now have a different attitude to boating. I now recommend this course to anyone who wants to get onto a boat. p.s. don’t tell my wife.

Comment(s): I thought I knew something about boating... then I went on the course. Information that is practical, usable and presented in an interesting way. NOBODY should go onto the water without first doing this course. Did the radio course as well. Got 99% and that extra 1% I lost is the fault of the "powers that be". If the correct info was given to uncle Alan, I would have had a full house as I made a point to memorise everything that was taught. Just a tip - Do NOT go pump cracker on an outgoing tide without checking the water level constantly... You may sit on that bank for six hours till the tide comes in again, to great amusement of others, but sheer embarrasment to the "clever" skipper(ess). Thank you for a great course.

Comment(s): Having spent years fishing from boats at St Lucia, Port St Johns, offshore, Durban Harbour, and Midmar Dam I was pretty sure that the COC course would not teach me much. In fact, it was quite the opposite, there are many basic and finer points of boating that were mentioned that one overlooks unless you have been exposed to them. The course was interesting, definitely worthwhile, and highly recommended, even if only as a refresher.

Comment(s): What else can I say that has not already been said. I would recommend it as a stepping stone for anybody wanting to do their skippers course. You think you know everything until you learn something new. Thanks Alan

Comment(s): I had been boating for over 20 years and had the attitude…. What can you teach me? Did I catch a wake up!!! I had the safety equipment because they would not inspect my boat without it. Where was it?.... in a hatch, because I only needed it for boat inspection. The facilitator demonstrated each piece of safety equipment, gave reasons why it was necessary, and when and how it should be used. What impressed me was, I never felt anything was forced on me. Various additional safety items were also recommended in the same manner. I now carry my safety equipment plus much more. Why? Because now I realise “I am responsible, for my and my crew’s safety”. Recommended course for old and new boaters, Allan has vast experience and knowledge in the boating field, but it is his passion for safety and sharing that makes this course special.
